Meet the First Ghanaian VAR Official – Daniel Laryea

Daniel Laryea is a CAF and FIFA accredited referee who started his refereeing Career at the age of 17 in 2005. He did a lot of colts games and other similar level games.

He went through the ranks and officiated a lot of 1st Division matches until 2012 when he did his debut game in the Ghana premier league (Medeama fc VS Berekum Chelsea at Tarkwa park).

He qualified to take part in the FIFA fitness test in 2013 and passed. He was later accredited as an international referee in 2014 where he officiated his first international game in Cameroon (same year).

In 2017,Mr Daniel Laryea became part of the Officials (Referees) in the U17 tournament held in Gabon and WAFU TOURNAMENT in Ghana.

He also qualified to be part of the Refereeing team for CHAN 2018 tournament in Morocco.

He has been on top level games in the CAF Champions league and the CAF confederations Cup. The recent game he officiated was a quarter final match between Sundown and Al ahly in Pretoria (South Africa).

He participated in FIFA CAF video Assistant Referee course (VAR) and has now been certified as a VAR.

This is a great achievement for Ghana as far as refereeing is concern and he stands as the only and first person with such certification in Ghana.
