Since arriving at Stade Rennais this summer Ghana international Kamaldeen Sulemana has impressed in the Ligue 1 and Europa Conference League Conference.
Having left his family home at the age of 11, the Ghanaian has forged himself through adversity, through a journey shaped by the Right to Dream Academy between Ghana and Denmark.
For the first time in France, the 19-year-old winger talks about himself in an interview with Ouest-France.fr
How it all started
“As soon as I was able to walk (during childhood), I played football” he said.
“In my community, when you start to walk, you are considered capable of doing something. And with me, everything is linked to football. The first gift every mother gives to her child is a football. Mine, I was protecting it in my arms, that’s all I remember. ”
On his origin
“My father is Gonja and my mother is Dagbani, these are my two mother tongues (English, the official language of Ghana, having come later).” Sulemana revealed.
“There are many Muslims, like me, who left their origins to come to Techiman. We are like family no matter what tribe you come from or what …” Kamaldeen said.
Sulemana has scored 5 goals and made 1 assist in 17 games for Rennais so far this season.
