Jadon Sancho to Man Utd: Transfer fee breakdown, contract details and shirt number

Jadon Sancho is finally set to become a Manchester United player after a deal was agreed with Borussia Dortmund.

The England winger has had an agreement in principle with the Red Devils since last summer.

But one of the longest-running transfer sagas in recent memory has rumbled on with both clubs unable to agree a deal – until now.

Sancho, who left Manchester City to head to Germany in 2017, will return to the Premier League in the red half of Manchester.

He returns having etched his name as one of the world’s top young players with a frightening record of goals and assists in the Bundesliga.

Here’s everything we know about the deal to bring Sancho to Old Trafford, which was well over a year in the making.Jadon Sancho is set to finally become a Man Utd player

Transfer fee

For months, it seemed Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund were locked in a stalemate, around £10million apart in their valuation of Sancho.

Dortmund stood firm last summer but with another year of his contract ticked down, they have now accepted an offer from United.

The two clubs have agreed a £72.9million fee, according to the Manchester Evening News

Interestingly, however, the deal includes no add-ons.

United were believed to be keen to pay various parts of the deal in instalments including performance-based clauses, as they have done with various other big transfers, including Bruno Fernandes.

Yet Dortmund held out for the fee up front and appear to have got their wish with United shelling out big money up front to get their man in a deal which suits both parties.

Contract details

Sancho is set to be at United for the long haul.

He will sign a five-year deal with an option for an extra year, according to Goal

That deal would potentially take him up to 2027.

Whilst Sancho is yet to put paper on finalised personal terms, it has been widely reported his representatives came to a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ last summer.

The Daily Mail previously reported that Sancho will become the second-highest earner at Old Trafford on a contract just shy of David de Gea’s £375,000-a-week.

He is set to enter the top five earners in the Premier League along with De Gea, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne.

Shirt number

Another detail widely reported to have been sorted last summer, Sancho is expected to become Manchester United’s new No.7.

The situation regarding the iconic number has changed somewhat since last summer.

The number was free after Alexis Sanchez left but was taken by Edinson Cavani when he arrived on a free last summer.

But after keeping the shirt warm, Sancho is expected to become the No.7 which could see Cavani switch as he enters his second season at Old Trafford.

It has been claimed Sancho has asked for the No.7 shirt, previously worn by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona and David Beckham.

Whilst a final decision has not yet been taken, The Athletic reported he is set to be granted his wish and it is hard to imagine that not being the case.
