Gaming Commission To Ban Celebrities From Endorsing Betting Companies

The Gaming Commission of Ghana, has released a document giving directives to operators of games of chance (Betting).

In the document that has been posted online, the Commission under Section 3 (2) (g) of the Gaming Act, 2006 (Act 721), states that “the purpose of these guidelines is to ensure that advertisements by operators are conducted in a responsible manner devoid of promises of any predetermined outcomes, appeals/enticements to Gamble to the vulnerable in society as well as minimise exposure to minors where applicable.”

The document also stipulates that “operators shall not use celebrities in their advertisements to entice the general public to gamble.”

Over the weeks, Wendy Shay and her boss, Bullet made statements on social media alluding that the Gaming Commission was about to “take food from their mouths.”

Although their sentiments on the ban were based on speculations, the Commission has finally made it official.
